영어는 주어와 동사가 반드시 있어야 하는 언어입니다.

그래서 심지어

라는 말을 할 때에도 주인공이 필요해요!

그런데 사실 이 문장에서는 주인공이 의미도 없고 가리키는 대상도 없죠. 그래서 우리는 아무 의미 없는 it을 형식적인 주인공으로 씁니다. It rains. 이렇게요! 여기서 it 은 그것이라고 해석하지 않아요. 사실은 아예 해석하지 않습니다!

날짜, 날씨, 시간, 거리, 요일, 계절, 명암, 온도 등을 나타낼 때 비인칭 주어 it을 사용합니다.

 

 

★ 날짜를 이야기 할 때는 서수로 일(日)을 나타냅니다.

서수는 목록에서의 위치, 순서를 나타내요. 1은 first, 2는 second, 3은 third 로 표현하고 다른 숫자들 (0,4,5,6,7,8,9)는 뒤에 –th를 붙여주면 된답니다. 여기서 11,12,13은 각각의 수에 해당하는 단어가 있기 때문에 first, second, third 로 표현하지 않고 eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth 로 표기합니다.
